The sixth season of the Winter Farmers’ Market is underway, with vendors offering produce, baked goods and crafts. In February, vendors will be offering meats for sale.
Located in the Community Market building at 629 Craghead St., the Winter Farmers’ Market is open each Saturday through March from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. All dates are weather permitting.
Kenny Porzio, the program coordinator for Danville Parks and Recreation, said a Facebook page – the Danville, VA Farmers' Market Group – has been created to allow vendors to post information about the produce and products they will be bringing to the market and when they will be at the market.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please remember the following guidelines for visiting the Farmers' Market:
- Do not enter if you are sick
- Service pets only allowed inside
- Maintain six feet of space
- One customer at a table at one time
- Please do not linger
The winter market began at the request of vendors with year-round offerings. Those offerings included seasonal produce from vendors with greenhouses. The market proved to be a success, with both good vendor participation and customer traffic.
The winter market opened on Jan. 2, but was closed on Jan. 9 due to the winter weather forecast. Weather permitting, it will be open each Saturday through the end of March.
The spring and summer farmers’ market operates every Saturday from May through October. In July and August, the market also is open on Wednesday afternoons.
