The National Weather Service in Blacksburg earlier today issued a winter weather advisory for Danville that will take effect at midnight. Rain will fall overnight before transitioning to sleet and freezing rain before daybreak and then ending as rain.
No ice accumulations are expected in the city and the southern portion of Pittsylvania County, but bridges and overpasses could become slippery. Public Works crews will report to work early on Friday to treat bridges and overpasses.
The northern portion of Pittsylvania County could receive trace amounts of ice, according to the National Weather Service. Motorists traveling north are advised to slow down and use caution in the early morning hours.
