The eighth annual Community Holiday Light Show continues this week, with shows daily from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Ballou Park through Thursday, Dec. 23. Ride through the park and enjoy a visit with Santa at the Children's Village.
The drive-through event features displays built by local individuals, families, organizations and businesses.
Enter the park at its Park Avenue entrance. Volunteer groups will be there to direct traffic through the park. The cost is $10 per car and $20 for buses and 15-passenger vans. This is a cash-only event.
The Children’s Village is located at the bottom level of Ballou Recreation Center. Photos with Santa, free books, and refreshments are included in the price of admission.
Last year, 3,580 cars and eight buses carrying 12,075 people came through the park for the show, which drew visitors from Kentucky, California, Montana, Illinois, Maryland, Georgia, Texas, and Maine. The Southeast Tourism Society has designated the light show as a Top 20 event in the region.
A portion of the proceeds is donated to local organizations, volunteer groups, and non-profits. Last year, the amount of money donated for “Best Display” to non-profits totaled $3,900; and gate worker groups earned over $15,500.
