Mayor Alonzo Jones and other members of the City Council attended today's dedication ceremony for the Police Department's new headquarters at 1 Community Way. A grand opening and tours for the public will be held in October.
The location is the site of the former Dan River mills executive headquarters. At today's dedication, Jones said it is fitting that the road to this facility is named “Community Way.”
"That’s because this new facility belongs to the citizens of this city," he said. "All are welcome here."
The facility provides the department with one of the most secure headquarters in Virginia. Also, it not only brings all divisions of the department under one roof, but features a real-time crime center with virtual patrol, virtual training room, backup dispatch center, and ample multipurpose space to expand community engagement activities.
This project was a collaboration between the City of Danville, developer Ed Walker, Blair Construction, Caesars Virginia, and Architectural Partners.
