The first weekend of December offers four big holiday events, beginning Friday with a walk along the Luminary Trail; and followed on Saturday by the Holiday Market and Christmas on the Plaza; and on Sunday, the Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade.
Friday, Dec. 2, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Riverwalk Trail from Main Street Plaza to the Community Market
This free event is hosted by Danville Parks and Recreation. Celebrate the season with a candlelit stroll along the Riverwalk while listening to holiday music from local carolers and musicians. Festive luminaries will line the path. Various musical acts will be singing/performing your favorite holiday song.

Saturday, Dec. 3, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., Main Street Plaza
Hosted by the River District Association, Christmas on the Plaza is an annual holiday tree lighting event. This year’s event features entertainment from the GW High School Chorus, Park Avenue Elementary School Chorus, local bands Boule and Dos Guitars, and local dance company, Kuumba. Enjoy hot chocolate, cookies and popcorn; selfies with Santa; freshly made snow; and children’s activities including sidewalk chalk, face painting, and books from the Ruby B. Archie Mobile Library.
Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade
Sunday, Dec. 4, 5 p.m., Main Street.
The Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade will be held at night for the second consecutive year. The parade route begins at the intersection of Main Street and Broad Street. The route ends at the intersection of Craghead and Newton streets. This year’s theme will be “Christmas around the World.”
This year’s parade will feature the performance of The Blue & Gold Marching Machine of North Carolina A&T University. The band’s performance is sponsored by Caesars Virginia.
