Danville Parks and Recreation staff are excited to share highlights of events, programs, and news for August.
Events and Special Programming:
- Let's Glow Crazy: August 9. Dan Daniel Park Playground. 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Free admission.
Let's glow crazy at Dan Daniel Park! The playground will be lit up with black lights and spotlights once it's dark. There will be glow crafts and activities for kids. Wear your favorite glow attire. Glow sticks will be provided. Call (434) 857-3384 for more information.
- Adult Recess: August 17. Ballou Park. 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission.
Be a kid for an afternoon! Ballou Park will be turned into a grownup playground with a slip and slide and playground favorites like bubbles, double dutch, and four square. Join a dodge ball game, or groove to the tunes of DJ Greg Gee VA. Food trucks will be onsite with items for purchase. Ages 18 and up. Call (434) 857-3384.
Program Spotlights:
- Hawaiian Luau Party: August 8. Ballou Recreation Center. 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. $5.
Aloha! Dress up in your favorite Hawaiian shirt and join us in paradise to play games, socialize, and enjoy an afternoon of food, fun, and festivities. Ages 50 and up. Call (434) 799-5216.
- Art in the Park: August 15. Ballou Park Shelter 6. 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. No fee.
Create art that will be featured in Children's Village at the Community Holiday Light Show this December! In this session, we will paint a cozy winter cabin. No fee. Ages 17 and up. Call (434) 857-3384.
Improvements and Initiatives:
- Doyle Thomas Park Splash Pad: Open Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The Doyle Thomas Park Splash Pad is now open! Ready to get out there and have some fun? Familiarize yourself with Doyle Thomas Park and the splash pad rules before you gear up and head out to the park.
