The Danville Globe is now on display in City Council Chambers!
This beautiful piece of art is the creation of mosaic artist Dotti Stone from Bedford, and features 24 landmarks throughout the River City. Over 1,200 hours of tedious work brought the globe to life using pieces of tile, stone and various types of glass.
Dottie created the piece while an artist-in-residence at Vantage Art Flats, a Rick Barker owned Airbnb in the 500 Block of Craghead Street. The eight week residency provides the artist a one-bedroom apartment at the flats which is joined by an art studio. The artists are provided a stipend during their stay and the freedom to create whatever they wish.
Dottie was the third artist to participate in the program in the fall of 2023 and the globe was born. She has graciously donated the piece to the City and it will be on display various locations over the next year before finding its permanent residence at the Vantage Art Flats.
Residents and visitors are welcome to view the globe in the Council Chambers, which is located on the fourth floor of the Municipal Building, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., unless there is a meeting taking place during those hours.
