The Police Department warns motorists of multiple street closures scheduled Sunday, Dec. 8, at intersections along Main Street for the Danville Riverview Rotary Christmas Parade.
The parade begins at 5 p.m. and will feature over 100 entries, including The Blue & Gold Marching Machine of North Carolina A&T State University. The theme this year is "Serving Others for Christmas.”
The parade will kick off on Main Street at Broad Street and weave its way down Main Street and turn onto Craghead Street. The Police Department warns motorists of multiple street closures that will be in place for the parade:
- From 3 p.m. until the parade’s end, Cleveland Street, Broad Street, and Rison Street will all be blocked to allow for parade participant assembly.
- Beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, the southbound lanes of the Martin Luther King Memorial Bridge will be closed. Main Street from Rison and Broad Streets to Craghead Street will also be closed during this time. Craghead Street from Colquhoun to Main Streets will also be closed.
Motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
Watch for slow moving vehicles in the area during this time. Motorists should yield the right of way to pedestrians at designated crosswalks. Watch for children.
Parking for the parade is available around the Municipal Building and Danville Courthouse, in the public parking lot at the intersection of North Union Street and Spring Street, and in designated public parking spaces in the River District.
River City TV will live stream the parade on its Facebook page.
