Ten Danville Police Department officers graduated from the GREAT (Grass Roots Empowerment and Action Training) Program Friday, Jan. 31, during a ceremony at Averett University.
Officers David A Guido Flores, William G. Headley, Michael K. Pollard, Charles G. Setliff, Latorya N. Banks, Daniel J. Brannock, Douglas E. Cassell, Joshua A. Craddock, Matthew B. Williams, and Jonathan A. Wyatt all received plaques Friday for completing the program.
Each cohort of GREAT Program graduates have completed a task within the community to serve the needs of others.
This cohort’s project consisted of remodeling a therapy room at Building Blocks Center for Pediatric Therapies, which was completed with the help of donated construction materials, age and therapy appropriate toys, and technology items including a projector. The room was transformed over the course of a week into a modern, welcoming space for patients, their families, and caregivers.
Since 2021, the Danville Police Department in partnership with Averett University has held the GREAT Program over a four-week period for seven cohorts of new officers. During the program, officers learn about Danville’s history, needs, culture, and background through classroom learning, workshops, and in the field.
