Five individuals are in custody this morning after firing shots at a Virginia State Police vehicle Tuesday night. The State Police special agent driving the unmarked police vehicle was not injured, despite his vehicle being shot with multiple bullets.
The incident occurred at approximately 11:53 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2018, in the Moffett Street area of the City. Danville Police and Virginia State Police have been conducting follow up investigations into the recent shootings in the City. A Dodge Charger, whose occupants are persons of interest in the shootings, was being observed by the state police special agent when one of its occupants opened fire on the state police vehicle.
The Dodge Charger then fled the scene and a pursuit was initiated. The Dodge Charger crashed a short distance later on Sunnyside Street. The driver and four passengers were taken into custody without further incident. None of the five were injured in the crash.
A firearm and other evidence were recovered at the scene. Charges are pending at this time against the adults and juveniles in the Dodge Charger.
The investigation into this incident by the Danville Police Department and the Virginia State Police is ongoing.
