We understand just how fast information can flow through social media in normal situations and it only accelerates in times of uncertainty. The Danville Police Department is committed to providing our community with timely and relevant information in order to keep our community accurately informed.
Last night, social media posts circulated very quickly about problems at Walmart. We tracked the information back to a source and learned that a juvenile shared a post without comprehending the potential negative impact. We are working with the parents and the juvenile justice system to address this situation.
Because misinformation can easily travel through informal networks, it is important we vet it with legitimate news sources.
Our citizens are a great resource when it comes to sharing with us suspicious or questionable social media posts. The slogan “See something, say something” applies to the virtual world as well.
Our CARE app to report crime tips is an avenue to report suspicious activity where you can easily submit text, pictures and URLs, all from your mobile device. Those messages go directly to a team of officers for follow-up.
We want to thank the citizens who contacted us over the last few days with information and we encourage everyone to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Neighbors and our website. We want you to know we are here to answer your questions as well as to keep you safe.
