A Danville grand jury indicted Chauncey L. Montague for involuntary manslaughter in connection with Oct. 24 death of Amanda Rose (30) of Danville.
The medical examiner ruled that Rose died of acute fentanyl toxicity and evidence supports the charge that Montague supplied her the drugs that lead to her death.
Montague was already in custody and he remains in the Danville City Jail without bond.
Virginia State Code 18.2-36 – Involuntary manslaughter
Original Story Oct. 25, 2019
Danville Police arrest a second man as the investigation into the series of recent overdoses continues.
Following what we believe to be an overdose death early Thursday morning, investigators executed search warrants at two locations and seized drugs from both. As a result, police arrested Chauncey Montague (46) for the distribution of a controlled substance.
Danville Police made this investigation a top priority from the beginning and are still working to track the drugs to the source. However, it is impossible to estimate how much of this particular product is still on the street.
Though there is no such thing as good or safe illegal narcotics, we again urge those with heroin addiction to avoid contact with this potentially deadly source. Based on the information we have at this time, the increased danger is likely due to this product being sold as heroin, but having an unknown amount of fentanyl or other toxic substance in it.
We wish to point those suffering from substance abuse addiction and their family members to community-based resources such as the Regional Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention (RASAP). They offer services to include REVIVE training on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose emergency.
The Danville Police Department is committed to maintaining a safe environment for all by protecting life and we will do this by arresting those responsible for trafficking this drug into our community. We ask anyone with information on this case to contact us through our CARE app or by calling 434-793-0000.
