Danville Police are investigating a single-vehicle traffic crash that happened this afternoon on South Boston Road that left a Danville man dead.
The crash happened about 12:35 p.m. on South Boston Road near the intersection of Gough St. The driver, 63-year-old Michael Simmons, died at the scene. He was traveling westbound in a 2001 silver Toyota Echo when witnesses saw his car begin to swerve before it left the roadway and hit a metal pole.
Police have reason to believe that Simmons may have suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash. There was no evidence of distracted driving or that alcohol or drugs were involved.
