Averett University security contacted the Danville Police Department at about 11:15 a.m. after receiving a threatening email. The email made a general threat towards the university and out of an abundance of caution, the campus went into lockdown.
Danville Police officers went to both the Main Campus and the North Campus to provide security while investigators began running down the source of the message.
At this time there is no indication this was a legitimate threat. Though the timing of the threat has passed, Averett will remain on lockdown until further notice. Danville Police will continue to provide a presence at all campuses throughout the afternoon.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Event, currently underway on Averett’s E. Stuart James Grant North Campus, will continue as planned.
