Two women have been charged in a neglect case in June that led to the death of a 1-year-old boy and sent two others to the hospital.
On June 21 at approximately 4:42 pm the Danville Emergency Services Dispatch Center received a 911 call of unresponsive children in a parked car in front of the Ross store located on Holt Garrison Parkway. Danville Police responded, but the car had already left. Utilizing vehicle registration information provided by citizens at the scene, responding officers went to a residence on Kemper Road and made contact with the driver and occupants of the car. There they discovered a 3-year-old girl, 1-year-old boy, and 78-year-old woman all suffering from heat exposure. EMS was immediately called, and all three were transported to Danville Regional Medical Center for treatment.
On June 25 at approximately 12:10 pm medical personnel at Carilion Clinic Children's Hospital pronounced Dakhyran Markell Reeves, age 1 year 8 months, dead. The body was sent to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for further examination.
The 3-year-old girl and 78-year-old woman were both released from the hospital on June 24.
After additional tests and consultation with a specialist, the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke listed hyperthermia as the cause of death for Dakhyran Reeves.
Today a special grand jury convened and after hearing the evidence in this case issued indictments for Danielle (NMN) Clark, age 35 of Danville and Maiqian Shenta Deshazor, age 27 of Danville. Clark is the mother of the children left in the car. Deshazor is a relative and caretaker of the 78-year-old woman that was left in the car.
Danielle Clark is charged with Felony Murder (1 count), Aid and Abet Abuse and Neglect of Incapacitated Adult (1 count), and Child Neglect and Abuse (2 counts).
Maiqian Deshazor is charged with Aid and Abet Felony Murder and Abuse (1 count), Neglect of Incapacitated Adult (1 count), and Aid and Abet Child Neglect and Abuse (2 counts).
