The Danville Police Department will be hosting a H.E.A.R.T. (Heal and Engage After Recent Trauma) walk today to engage the Bradley Road community after the tragic shooting death of 40-year-old Steve Gunter last night. Participants will be meeting at the intersection of Bradley Road and Carver Drive at 2:00 PM, before moving door-to-door in the neighborhood.
H.E.A.R.T. walks are a collaborative effort where the Danville Police Department partners with Danville-Pittsylvania County Community Services mental health experts to engage the local community after a traumatic event. The teams will provide updates on the crime, the suspect information, and ensure any questions and concerns are addressed. All efforts will be made to reduce fear and anxiety for the neighborhood after this traumatic event, including offering the services of the trained behavioral health staff involved in the walk or follow-up if needed.

Police Identify and are Searching for Suspect in Bradley Rd. Homicide
The Danville Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating 43-year-old Jerome Jermaine Davis Jr. of Danville. Detectives have obtained a warrant against Mr. Davis for second-degree murder in the shooting death of 40-year-old Steve Gunter last night on Bradley Road. Jerome Jermaine Davis Jr. was already wanted for felony attempted aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and brandishing a firearm from an unrelated incident. Davis should be considered armed and dangerous.
This is still an active and ongoing investigation.

At approximately 7:58PM, the Danville Police Department responded to the 400 block of Bradley Road for calls of shots fired and a male victim being shot. Officers located a victim, suffering from what appeared to be a gunshot wound, in the street on Bradley Rd. The victim was pronounced non-viable by first responders. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Steve Gunter of Danville.
Danville Police Department officers, investigators, and crime scene technicians are on scene and a full-scale investigation is underway.
No suspect information is available for release at this time.
