This morning, the Danville Police Department arrested 19-year-old Jahsun Le'Andre Townes of Danville for charges of aggravated malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharging a firearm in a public place, and wearing a mask while committing the crimes in reference the July 17, 2022 shooting of a 42-year-old Danville man near a convenience store on Memorial Drive.
Back on July 17, 2022, at approximately 6:50 PM, Danville Police were dispatched to the area of Memorial Drive between North Ridge Street and Poplar Street for a report of shots fired. A 42-year-old male Danville resident arrived at SOVAH Danville emergency room shortly after with a single gunshot wound to the leg, which occurred on Memorial Drive. The victim was shot after leaving a convenience store located in the area of the 911 call on Memorial Drive.
The investigation has shown the victim and suspect had previous interactions before Mr. Townes shot at the victim on July 17, as this was not a random act.
Danville Police Department investigators worked to identify the suspect and were then able to obtain warrants yesterday. The investigators worked tirelessly tracking down leads on the whereabouts of Jahsun Le'Andre Townes which led to his arrest at an apartment on Springfield Rd. this morning.
Jahsun Le'Andre Townes was held in the Danville City Jail under no bond. No other suspects are being sought in this case.
