On Monday, August 22, 2022, a Danville grand jury indicted 30-year-old Danville male, Mr. Richard Lee Wilson, Jr. The charges include first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and use of firearm by a convicted felon in regard to the July 27, 2022, incident that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Darick Lamont Richardson II. Mr. Wilson is in Danville City Jail with no bond. He was in custody of the Danville city jail on an unrelated charge prior.

On July 27, 2022, at approximately 10:50 PM, the Danville Police Department responded to calls of shots being fired at the apartment complex located at 1321 Piney Forest Rd. Responding officers found 23-year-old Darick Lamont Richardson II, a Danville resident, in the parking lot of the apartment complex near the F and K buildings suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mr. Richardson was immediately flown by helicopter to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where, later on the morning of July 28, 2022, he died from the injuries. Investigators and crime scene are working this incident. No suspect information is available for release at this time. Residents of the Woodside Village Apartment community and surrounding streets and neighborhoods who may have any video surveillance cameras are asked to contact the Danville Police Department through any of the platforms listed below.
