Our preliminary investigation determines there is a small cohort of individuals committing vehicle thefts across the city. To prevent this crime of opportunity, DPD wants to strongly encourage and remind Danville residents to lock their vehicle each and every he/she exits. It does not matter whether a citizen is at home, work, a parking lot, a grocery store, a public place, etc., do not leave your vehicle unlocked. By locking your doors, you greatly reduce the likelihood that your vehicle or personal possession will not be stolen. Here are tips below to help prevent thefts of/from motor vehicles:
- Always lock your car when you park it, and remove your keys
- Lock valuables in your truck
- Do not leave personal ID cards, credit cards, or weapons in your vehicle
- Do not hide spare keys or leave keys in the car and unsecured
- Take your valuables in at night
Stop, pop, and lock it.
Stop: Get out of your car
Pop: Pop your keys out of your pocket
Lock: Lock your doors
