6:15 a.m. 6/23/23 UPDATE: The Danville Police Department has arrested Demetrius Agee Townes, 35, and charged him with second degree murder and use of a firearm in commission of a felony following the homicide that occurred Thursday evening, June 22.
Townes was charged after officers found Joe Arnold Martin, 43, suffering from a gunshot wound in a vehicle in the 1600 block of Washington Street. Martin was pronounced dead after being transported to SOVAH Health. His family has been notified.
At this time, no other suspects are being sought. This is the fifth homicide of 2023 in Danville. All five homicides have been cleared by arrest.
A H.E.A.R.T. Walk will be held on Washington Street at 4 p.m. Friday, June 23.

ORIGINAL STORY: Police Investigating Homicide
The Danville Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Thursday, June 22.
Officers responded to a shots fired call in the 1600 block of Washington Street at 8:15 p.m. and located a 43 year old Danville resident inside a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers performed CPR on the victim until the Danville Life Saving Crew arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at SOVAH Health.
This incident does not appear to be a random act. The investigation is ongoing.
