6:45 p.m. 8/16/23 UPDATE: An arrest has been made following a bank robbery that occurred earlier Wednesday.
Kevin Brett Collins, 39, from Tennessee, was arrested in Rockingham County, North Carolina following a brief foot pursuit that ensued after he was seen walking away from a motorcycle that was stopped on the shoulder of Route 29.
Collins will be extradited back to Virginia to face charges of robbery, grand larceny and use of a firearm in commission of a felony. Collins is being held in the Rockingham County Jail for additional charges unrelated to the robbery in Danville.
The Danville Police Department thanks the community for their assistance in this investigation and especially the deputy with the Rockingham County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the regional be-on-the-lookout for the suspect and vehicle, and the other deputies from Rockingham County who responded to take Collins into custody.

8/16/23 ORIGINAL RELEASE: Bank Robbery Investigation
The Danville Police Department is investigating a bank robbery that occurred Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Carter Bank and Trust in the 900 block of S. Main St.
At 11:13 a.m. officers responded to Carter Bank for a reported bank robbery.
A suspect, white male in his 30s, described as wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, black baseball hat with black and silver book bag. He approached the counter, produced a handgun and demanded money.
The suspect left the scene on a blue motorcycle with an undisclosed amount of cash.
