Monday, September 11, marks the 22nd anniversary of the terror attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, an attack on the Pentagon in Washington, DC, and the crashing of a plane in Pennsylvania.
The Danville community will honor the heroes who gave their lives and those champions who served the injured during its 2023 commemorative ceremony which is planned for Monday, September 11, beginning at 8:45 a.m. in front of the Danville Life Saving Crew Hall located at 202 Christopher Lane.
Everyone is invited to come and to remember. This National Day of Service and Remembrance will begin at with a Patriotic Medley played by United States Coast Guard Piper Tim Carpenter and a moment of silence at 0846. The program includes the City’s Joint Honor Guard, prayers from chaplains serving our first responders, a presentation by members of the GWHS Marching Band and Choir, and comments from Mayor Alonzo Jones and Delegate Danny Marshall.
The ceremony is open to all and is a collaborative effort by Danville’s first responders including the Danville Fire Department, the Danville Life Saving Crew, the Danville Police Department, and the Danville Sheriff’s Office.
