1:20 p.m. 12/12/23 UPDATE: RESOLVED: Toys for Tots Incident
The Toys for Tots theft has been resolved. No crime has been committed. Upon seeing the Danville Police Department news release, the individual came forward and returned the toys collected. The individual, who entered Planet Fitness by mistake, showed an authentic email from Toys for Tots to the Planet Fitness staff who then loaded all the toys from the bin into her vehicle. The individual mistakenly went into Planet Fitness instead of the Toys for Tots office next door. It was a misunderstanding on the part of Planet Fitness staff.
The Danville Police Department appreciates the publics assistance with this incident.

The Danville Police Department is investigating a larceny that occurred at Planet Fitness in the 3300 block of Riverside Drive. Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance identifying a female suspect believed to have stolen the contents of a Toys for Tots bin at the location.
On Monday, Dec. 4, a female suspect used false information to obtain the contents of the Toys for Tots donation bin. When the official Toys for Tots representative arrived Monday, Dec. 11, it was at that point they learned that the toys were stolen by the false representation of the female on Dec. 4.
The female suspect left the scene in a white four door Chevrolet sedan with unknown tags, driven by an unknown black male.
The Danville Police Department advises area businesses to be aware of who is picking up donations, and to confirm their information and association with the charity before allowing them to leave with any items.
