Chief of Police Chris Wiles is pleased to announce the following appointments to the Danville Police Department Command Staff.
Timothy Jones is being appointed Deputy Chief.
Jones, who previously served as Assistant Chief of Operations, is a Danville native who began his 30 year law enforcement career with the Danville Police Department in 1993. He has served as a patrol officer, school resource officer, field training officer, and in criminal investigations, honor guard, and community policing and patrol supervision and Assistant Chief of Services.
Additionally, he has a bachelor’s degree from Averett University and is graduate of the 277th session of the FBI National Academy, the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Professional Executive Leadership School (PELS) at the University of Richmond and a Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police Certified Law Enforcement Command Executive.
H. Steve Richardson is being appointed Assistant Chief of Services.
Richardson, who previously served as Captain of Professional Standards, is a Danville native who began his 25 year law enforcement career with the Danville Police Department in 1998. Richardson has served in and held leadership positions in patrol, investigations, Violent Crime and Gang Unit, Crisis Negotiation Unit, and Professional Standards, along with leading multiple task force units. In 2021, he was appointed to the Commonwealth of Virginia M.A.R.C.U.S. Alert Stakeholder Committee since 2021, served as Chairman of the Triage Subcommittee, responsible for guiding new legislation to change crisis response to behavioral health emergencies in Virginia.
Richardson has an associate degree in criminal justice from Danville Community College, and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Averett University.
David Whitley, who previously served as Assistant Chief of Services, will move to Assistant Chief of Operations.
