This morning, July 3, just before 5 a.m., officers were dispatched to Hermitage Drive on a report of multiple persons breaking into vehicles. Responding officers observed three individuals flee on foot from a running vehicle, which also fled the scene. That vehicle was later found crashed and unoccupied on Setliff Street. The vehicle’s owner later reported that the vehicle had been stolen from her residence on Holbrook Street.
Officers continued to search the vicinity for the three individuals who fled on foot and at around 6:25 a.m., three males matching the suspects’ descriptions were seen walking on Memorial Drive near Robertson Bridge. When the officer stopped, the males fled down the bank and into the river, exiting the river on the north side. Two of the individuals were detained, however the third could not be located.
Out of an abundance of caution, the Danville Fire Department’s Swift Water Rescue Team and the Danville Life Saving Crew’s drone team were called in to check the river for the third male.
The two individuals taken into custody at the river are juveniles and the third male, also a juvenile, was located and taken into custody later in the morning a short distance away on Trade Street. The investigation remains ongoing.
