CITY VS. COUNTY BASKETBALL – Friday, Aug. 2 at O.T. Bonner Middle School. This annual fundraiser event will feature men’s and women’s teams of players who once were team members in either Danville or Pittsylvania County. Tipoff for the women’s game is 5 p.m., with the men’s game to follow. Tickets are $10 per person and sold in advance at the Danville Police Department from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. ART CONTEST DEADLINE – Monday, Aug. 5. Your last opportunity to submit art for the Bikes on the Main Art Contest is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5. The winner of the art contest will receive a $50 gift certificate and have their art displayed on the back of the 2024 Bikes on the Main t-shirts. Submit yours to Sgt. D.C. BACK TO BACK – Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Danville Public Schools. The first day of school can be intimidating, and the Danville Police Department wants students to know we’re here for them. Officers will be present at schools throughout the city to greet students as they begin the school day.
BIKES ON THE MAIN – Sunday, Aug. 25 on Main Street. The fourth annual motorcycle cruise-in will feature an all-new big sound competition this year, in addition to live music, food and more. CHURCH SAFETY & SECURITY – Friday, Aug. 23 at the Danville Police Department. Join Crime Prevention Officer Ernest Coppage for an informational class on church safety and security on a variety of topics, including:
- Situational Crime Prevention
- Church Security Ministry - is it Necessary?
- Threat Assessments
- Basic Responses to Active Shooters
- Discussion on Guns and Church Goers

FATHER DAUGHTER DANCE – Saturday, Aug. 31 at the Danville Police Department. The second annual Father Daughter Dance will be held at 4 p.m. in the Danville Police Department’s Multipurpose Room. Registration is required (click here to register) and space is limited. This event provides demonstrates what it means to be a positive male role model for girls in a fun and safe environment. CARS AND COMMUNITY – Saturday, Sept. 28 at Dan River Church Parking Lot. The fourth annual Cars and Community car show will be held from noon to 4 p.m. This event will feature more than just cars – there will be food and activities for the whole family to enjoy! No registration is needed for anyone interested in displaying their car. Anything from antique to exotic is welcome to attend.
GOLF TOURNAMENT – Friday, Oct. 25 at Goodyear Golf Club. The fourth annual DPD Police on the Green Golf Tournament is open for registration. This captain’s choice tournament is $240 per 4 player team, and includes green fees, cart, and lunch. Mulligans and red tees are $5 each, and one per player.
