6:20 p.m. 12/13/24 UPDATE: Hunter Bryce Long, III, has been taken into custody without incident by the Danville Police Department in the 2300 block of West Main Street near Dollar General.
This incident remains under investigation.
The Danville Police Department appreciates the public’s assistance in locating Long after receiving several tips regarding his whereabouts.

ORIGINAL NEWS RELEASE: Police Seeking Escaped Subject
The Danville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance locating Hunter Bryce Long, III, 22. Long escaped from Southern Virginia Mental Health Institute on Taylor Drive around 3:55 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
Long was charged after assaulting a Danville Police Department officer on November 6, 2024. It is not known if he is armed. He is considered dangerous. Citizens who encounter Long should not approach him, and should dial 911 immediately.
Officers were advised Long was last seen wearing a white t-shirt and royal blue sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and SVMHI written on the side, and black shoes. The Danville Police Department is actively searching for Long at this time.
