In March of this year Danville Public Schools Officials reported the theft of school property from their Instructional & Administrative Technology (IAT) Department. The investigation initially revealed that between 10-4-11 and 10-12-11 Cisco computer equipment valued at approximately $40,000 was taken and sold to a vendor in Atlanta, GA. A former employee of the Danville Schools IAT Department named Steven Mark Arender was charged with one (1) count of grand larceny (felony) and was served on 5-25-12. Monday, a grand jury issued eight (8) additional indictments against Arender for grand larceny for theft of computer equipment valued at $133,962.50 from the Danville Public Schools. In addition to these charges, one (1) indictment was issued against Matthew Erin Stowe, age 36 of Danville. Stowe is charged with receiving a portion of this property and is also a former employee of the Danville Public Schools IAT Department.
Stowe was served with the indictment yesterday and released on a $1,000 unsecured bond. Arender was served with the additional indictments today and released on a $5,000 unsecured bond.
