8. What is an abandoned vehicle?

An abandoned vehicle means a motor vehicle, trailer, semi-trailer, or part there of that is inoperable, left unattended, or both, on any city street or public property for more than 48 hours. For more information, see City Code Section 21-135

13. Will the City trim trees on my private property?

No. Property owners are responsible for trimming their own trees and disposing of the debris.

14. What is a City right-of-way and how far does it extend onto my property?

The City right-of-way is a strip of property along the roadway on either side of the road (the area between the road and private property) that is maintained by the City. The right-of-way does not extend into private property. It begins where your private property ends and goes all of the way across the road to where your neighbor's property begins. There is no standard right-of-way distance for every road. Generally, the right-of-way ranges from 25 - 150 feet from the road's center line. Due to this wide range, it is important to find out the exact right-of-way distance before installing a sign or objects near a road. 15. Can I get a permit to place a sign on the City right-of-way? What will happen if I place a sign on the City right-of-way?

No. All signs must be on private property and may require a permit. If you place a sign on the City right-of-way it will be removed by City personnel. Contact the inspections office at (434) 799-5263 for more information.
