Voter Registration / Registrar

1. When are general elections?: General Elections in Danville are held the first Tuesday following the first Monday of each November. Local General Elections for Danville City Council and School Board are held at the November election in even years.

2. What time do the polls open?: Polls are open from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm on each Election Day.

3. Do I have to show identification at the polls?: Yes, all Virginia voters are required to show acceptable identification when they go to the polls to vote. You can use your Virginia driver’s license, DMV issued photo identification card, valid United States passport, valid employee photo identification card, valid Virginia college or university student photo identification card or other government issued photo identification card. You may also use a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, voter registration notice, or other government document containing the name and address of the voter.

4. How do I change my political party preference?: Virginia does not have registration by political party.

5. How do I change my address if I move?: 1) A change of address has to be made in person or in writing. 2) Voter can complete a Virginia Voter Registration Application. 3) Complete the back of their old voter card. 4) Write a note and send it into our office.
