1. How do I report a traffic signal or sign problem?: Call the Public Works Department at (434) 799-5245 between 8am - 5pm, Monday through Friday.

In addition, an e-Recycling Center for miscellaneous electronics is located at the Public Works Complex on 58 East (998 South Boston Road).

3. What can be taken to the recycling drop-off centers?: Clean recyclable goods including newspaper, mixed paper, tin cans, aluminum, glass and plastic bottles can be taken to the drop-off recycling centers. Electronics and other items can be taken to the E-Recycling center located at the Public Works Complex (Warehouse Building, 998 South Boston Road).

4. Does the City of Danville recycle electronics?: Yes. An E-Recycling Center is located at the Public Works Complex (Warehouse Building, 998 South Boston Road) for collection of miscellaneous electronics and other items such as computers and printers. (No monitors or televisions.)

7. How long do I have to abate a code violation?: With abandoned vehicles, you will be given 2 days to comply.
With illegal dumping or trash accumulation, you will be given 3 days to comply.
With right-of-way encroachment, you will be given 5 days to comply.
With overgrowth, you will be given 7 days to comply.
With hazardous trees, you will be given 15 days to comply.
With inoperable vehicles, you will be given 30 days to comply.

8. What is an abandoned vehicle?: An abandoned vehicle means a motor vehicle, trailer, semi-trailer, or part there of that is inoperable, left unattended, or both, on any city street or public property for more than 48 hours. For more information, see City Code Section 21-135

9. Can I make an anonymous complaint?: Yes. You may contact the Public Works Department at (434) 799-5245 with an anonymous complaint, but be specific of the address and problem.

10. Who should I contact if a sewer backup occurs in my house?: First, contact a plumber. If the problem cannot be resolved, contact the Public Works Department at (434) 799-5245 during working hours (Mon.-Fri., 8am-5pm) or (434) 799-5284 after working hours. More...

12. How do I find out which streets are scheduled for repaving?: Call the Engineering Division of Public Works at (434) 799-5019 or view the current schedule on the Street Resurfacing page of the Danville website.

13. Will the City trim trees on my private property?: No. Property owners are responsible for trimming their own trees and disposing of the debris.

14. What is a City right-of-way and how far does it extend onto my property?: The City right-of-way is a strip of property along the roadway on either side of the road (the area between the road and private property) that is maintained by the City. The right-of-way does not extend into private property. It begins where your private property ends and goes all of the way across the road to where your neighbor's property begins. There is no standard right-of-way distance for every road. Generally, the right-of-way ranges from 25 - 150 feet from the road's center line. Due to this wide range, it is important to find out the exact right-of-way distance before installing a sign or objects near a road. 15. Can I get a permit to place a sign on the City right-of-way? What will happen if I place a sign on the City right-of-way?: No. All signs must be on private property and may require a permit. If you place a sign on the City right-of-way it will be removed by City personnel. Contact the inspections office at (434) 799-5263 for more information.
