3. Where may I obtain a copy of my birth certificate or a copy of a death certificate?

Certified copies of birth and death certificates are maintained by the Division of Vital Records and Health Statistics in Richmond, Virginia (804-662-6200). A certified copy of a vital record may be obtained by mailing a completed application and the required fee to the Division of Vital Records. Applications may be obtained in the Danville Circuit Court Clerk’s Office or may be printed from this site.

Certified copies of Virginia vital records (birth, death, marriage, and divorce) are available for purchase at all full service DMV locations, which include DMV customer service centers and DMV 2 Go mobile offices.
